Cat Illnesses

There are a few cat illnesses that every cat owner should be aware of. It's not necessary to understand every detail of a possible illness, but you should have a clue as to what to expect, which symptoms could be sign of what problem, and if you are well informed, you will also be able to participate in setting your vet is on the right track.
Although the vet is trained in the field, you are the one who is spending time with the cat on a daily basis. You will be able to pick up changes in the cat's behavior better and faster than anyone else. What you observe can be very helpful to the vet in determining what the problem is. Remember - your cat can't speak for themselves about how they are feeling so you have to do the talking for them.
If one of our cats shows abnormal behavior, we first call our vet to see what they say about it initially and then go on the Internet to research the behavioral changes. The reason why we use the Internet is because it is dynamic worldwide network where hundreds of people speak about their experience with cat illnesses, treatment options, natural remedies and product reviews.
The more information you have the better your cat will be served. The list of cat illnesses below is not meant as a replacement for medical advice from your vet. Only a veterinarian can ultimately diagnose and treat your pet. Even if you find very promising treatment options on the Internet, please always check back with your veterinarian to see if what you found is a viable option.
Some diseases can of course be prevented with a healthy lifestyle. You need to make sure that your cat is getting proper nutrition, do not overfeed your cat, make sure your cat has some space to roam around and that the litter box is kept clean (if you are using one). More cats than ever suffer from obesity, which is one contributing factor that can lead to cat illnesses like diabetes and arthritis.
Check the fur, eyes, teeth and skin regularly as that will give you an early indication of changes. When I pet the cats I usually also check for bumps and lumps, which could be important in the early detection of cat illnesses like cancer.
